Beef Rendang
Who doesn't know about Rendang? This West Sumatran beef curry is crowned as CNN's most delicious food in the world. There is nothing fancy about it, no extraordinary ingredients used. However, it seems that beef Rendang's popularity is growing really fast and showing no signs of fading away. From humble street food vendors until five stars restaurants, you can find Rendang easily ready to serve everyone's appetite.
Creating a perfect beef Rendang requires several steps: first, huge chunks of beef are cooked slowly with spice paste and coconut milk until fork-tender. Then, the beef is fried with remaining liquid until the liquid evaporates and starting to caramelize the beef, coating it with an insane amount of flavor. Beef Rendang may look unappealing in appearance, but since the flavor is very intense, once you have the taste of Rendang there is no way of turning back.
The secret of why Rendang can be so delicious lies from its paste of spices. It comes from blending various mixed ground spices, including ginger, galangal, turmeric leaves, lemongrass, garlic, shallots, chili, and many more. It is later added into the pot, allowing the beef to slowly absorb the spices. Not only bringing flavors into the meat, the spices also serve as natural organic preservatives. When cooked properly, beef Rendang can last for as long as four weeks.
Consuming beef Rendang in regular basis brings many health benefits. First of all, beef is an excellent source of protein and iron to keep you energized for a whole day. Eating a portion of Rendang is already filling enough, so you don't need to consume extra carbohydrates. Garlic provides anti-cancer benefits since it is high in antioxidant, along with galangal. Lemongrass is commonly used for treating high blood pressures. Moreover, the spicy flavor of chili helps fighting sinus congestion as well relieve migraines and muscle, joint, and nerve pain.
The medicine effects in Rendang can lead you to a healthier life. With my origin from southern Sumatra, I combine the flavors of the western Sumatra version with my own blend of spices, resulting in a very special Rendang taste. Not only rich in flavor, this Rendang is sensational which leaves you craving for more.
